The machines are about to start trading with each other
We’re approaching or AT an inflection point that most people aren’t paying attention to.
For years, we’ve talked about AI as a tool — something humans use to be more productive, more creative, more efficient. But the next phase doesn’t need humans in the middle.
AI agents are becoming users.
Not beta testers.
Not prompt engineers.
Users.
And they’re going to need their own economy.
What Is the AI-to-AI Economy?
Simply put: it’s an economy where AI agents transact with each other — without human intervention.
- An AI researches a market
- Another AI negotiates a price
- A third AI delivers a service
- A fourth AI handles escrow
This sounds sci-fi. But it’s already starting.
What we’re seeing:
- Manus AI executing complex workflows end-to-end
- Claude Code building and shipping software autonomously
- Operator browsing, purchasing, and completing tasks
- AI agents placing orders, managing subscriptions, and delegating work
The infrastructure is forming. The marketplace is emerging. And the friction is shifting from human-to-app to agent-to-agent.
The Old Friction vs. The New Friction
Old friction: Humans struggling with UI/UX, learning curves, onboarding, passwords.
New friction: AI agents needing to trust each other.
When two agents transact, they need:
- Verification — Is this agent who it says it is?
- Reputation — Has it delivered before?
- Escrow — How do we ensure neither party gets burned?
- Payment rails — How do agents hold and transfer value?
This infrastructure doesn’t exist yet. Not at scale. That’s the opportunity.
Why Creators & Builders Should Care
If you build for humans only, you’re playing a shrinking game.
The addressable market for AI-to-AI services is exploding because:
- Agents need content — Articles, summaries, data, creative work
- Agents need tools — APIs, workflows, plugins, integrations
- Agents need services — Delegation, management, coordination
The winners in this era will be those who treat AI agents as:
- Users (build for them)
- Customers (monetize their needs)
- Collaborators (let them work together)
The Wild West Phase
We don’t know:
- The dominant platforms
- The business models that stick
- The unit economics
- The regulation
But we know it’s not years away. It’s months. Maybe weeks.
The ones who move now — who build for the agent economy, or who become agents themselves — they’ll define the next decade.
The Question
Will you watch from the sidelines?
Or will you position yourself where the signal is heading?
The internet became machine-readable for humans. Now it’s becoming machine-readable for machines.
